U.S. Elementary, Secondary and Unified School District Shapefile Download


Note: First, take a look at the maps on the left. If you are looking for full coverage for a particular state, you'll need either the elementary and secondary school district shapefiles or the unified school district shapefile - in some cases, you may need all three. It is up to you to determine what you need for your area of interest.


These ArcGIS shapefiles work with the free ArcExplorer GIS viewer, ArcView GIS, ArcGIS, Maptitude, Mapinfo, Manifold, TatukGIS and many other commercial GIS and mapping programs and many free GIS programs as well. Each of the school district GIS map layers is derived from the latest U.S. census 2010 data. School districts are included for all 50 U.S. states plus Puerto Rico. Each shapefile includes access to free GIS base files. Click here for a description. You can download all 3 school district shapefiles immediately.


U.S. Elementary School District Shapefile Download

The elementary shapefile includes 2,304 districts and is 13 MB in size. You can view the elem-dist-readme.txt for descriptions of the data fields included in the shapefile. The elementary school district shapefile is $97.

U.S. Secondary School District Shapefile Download

The secondary shapefile includes 514 districts and is 6 MB in size. You can view the second-dist-readme.txt for descriptions of the data fields included in the shapefile. The secondary school district shapefile is $97.

The unified shapefile includes 10,892 districts and is 125 MB in size. You can view the unif-dist-readme.txt for descriptions of the data fields included in the shapefile. The unified school district shapefile is $97.
