The Cancer Atlas Plus is a valuable tool. Apparently it was online for some months before the public was aware of it. The interactive charts, maps and graphs can give every American citizen the
mortality rates for all types of cancers in their state and county.
Sponsors
Give it a whirl. Click on "Interactive Mortality Charts and Graphs;" at "Go To", click
on "Rates by cancer;' place the mouse over the bar representing your
state; click the bar for county mortality rates.
As you can see, This
can be a source of invaluable information for those who are protesting environmental
impacts and health effects in their communities. The map sections
combined with the charts can begin to dismantle the same old "burden of
proof" game played by polluters and corrupt politicians whenever
citizens voice concerns or protest and add to the "weight" of the evidence.
In addition, both the charts and
maps clearly indicate America's Hot Spots. Citizens in these areas
should be aware that they are MORE vulnerable to the threat of cancers,
and educate their physicians and public health officials on the ranking of their state and country.
I have created ArcView shapefiles using the Atlas Plus data and have included these on my Cancer Resource RTK CD.
