Internet NewsBrief is a weekly service from the EPA Headquarters Library that provides a sampling of new and/or useful Internet resources for EPA staff and other environmental professionals. An Atlas of Biodiversity http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/chiwild/ The Atlas of Biodiversity is published by the Chicago Region Biodiversity Council and provides an introduction to the endangered communities known as the Chicago Wilderness. The Atlas includes sections on 'Living Communities', 'Wooded Communities', Wetlands, 'Still' and 'Moving ' Waters, and 'People on the Land'. There are also appendices which includes a list of organizations, a section on further reading and a species index. The Atlas is available in pdf format and the requisite Adobe Acrobat reader software can be obtained from a link in the table of contents. ** GOVERNMENT INFORMATION ** Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center. North American Reporting Center for Amphibian Malformations. (NARCAM) http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/narcam The mission of the North American Reporting Center for Amphibian Malformations (NARCAM) is to facilitate the transfer of information on malformed amphibians. The center is 'compiling information from both the public and the scientific community' with the objective of providing an ' account of this phenomenon and accelerating its investigation'. The Reporting Center is also designed to encourage further collaboration among scientists researching the issue of malformed amphibians. This site includes a 'searchable' bibliography, an Amphibian Identification Guide, photographs of malformed amphibians, and 'amphibian survey forms' for biologists and non-biologists. ** INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION ** Biodiversity Information Network - Brazil http://www.bdt.org.br/bdt/index/binbr/ Base de Dados Tropical (BDT) coordinates the Brazilian Biodiversity Information Network, BINBr. BDT also provides information of interest to Biotechnology and Biodiversity including Brazilian Directories, Patents, legislative information, Education and Training and the BIN21 home page. The site is also available in Portuguese. EnviroNET Australia http://www.erin.gov.au/net/environet.html This joint government - industry site is a 'network of databases' established to maximize access to environment information. This network addresses 'environmental protection needs of the community at different levels: education, research and development, environmental technologies and industry expertise'. The information is collected by the Environmental Protection Group of the Australian Federal Department of Agriculture and industry . The databases are organized into six main topics: industry expertise, cleaner production, environmental education, environmental technologies, research and development, and hazardous wastes. This site also includes a 'Green Links' page which also emphasizes 'non-commercial' links. **EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION ** Thurgood Marshall School Of Law. Environmental Justice Clinic http://www.tsulaw.edu/environ/environ.htm The Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Environmental Justice Clinic is a public interest, environmental project. It was established in 1994 with the objective of 'lending the expertise and commitment of the Civil Rights and Environmental Movement to disenfranchised minority and low-income communities in Texas and neighboring states throughout the South, burdened by various environmental abuses.' This site include a list of communities represented or assisted by the clinic, and a page of environmental justice links and related resources. There is also a newsletter section under construction.
