Why I'm Going to Install Supplemental Hydrogen Devices in my Car, Truck and RV
Introduction
Hello - Before you hit the back button or go somewhere else, give me a moment. I'm well aware that there has been a recent explosion of websites selling various supposed fuel saving gadgets including those that use hydrogen. I'm also aware that there are a good number of blogs that talk about these being scams. Undoubtedly, many are scams - there are always those out there trying to make a buck at someone else's expense.
I always like to be as open as possible to new things that I learn about. I, like most of you, would love to find something that gives me better mileage, more efficiency, cleaner emissions and less contribution to global warming. When I ran across this supplemental hydrogen generator, I thought I should give it a good look.
Questions
First I found many posts that talked about how a device like this could not be efficient, could not provide nearly the amount of energy embodied in the hydrogen as it took to create it through electrolysis. The folks saying these things had no professional standing in the field that I could see and did not back up what they said with any research, quotes, etc. Nor was their any evidence that they had actually tried a device themselves.
Supplemental Hydrogen Works!
I wanted to find what someone who had installed a device had to say about it. Searching around a bit, I ran into an article, "Truckers Choose Hydrogen Power." I was very happy to find that many hundreds of over the road big rig trucks use these systems and have found that in real life situations, they increase power, lower emissions and save on fuel. Plans and Instructions
After looking around and wading through all the knock-off websites and outlandish claims, I've decided to purchase a set of how-to books and plans from Water4Gas.
I've found the downloadable e-books to be very detailed and full of useful, easy to follow, plans, parts lists, templates - all the information you need to build your own. Of course, if you'd rather not build your own, they include a list of vendors for complete ready-to-install units and businesses that will install the devices for you.
Building My Own
I'm just about done building my first unit. It was easy to do and I was able to find everything I needed at my local hardware store. My first unit will be installed in my mini-RV Lesharo veggie van. The van runs on biodiesel and now gets 27-31 miles per gallon. Next will be my 1980 Toyota 4x4 pickup. This one runs on gas and currently gets 19-22 miles per gallon and finally, my 89 VW Cabrio which currently gets about 32 miles per gallon. I'll be keeping accurate records and will report my results here.
